Four numbers to know before your next shower
Published figures from the EPA, the USGS and peer-reviewed studies. None of them stop at the kitchen tap.
At least 45% of US tap water is estimated to contain one or more PFAS, the forever chemicals the EPA links to kidney and testicular cancer, immune suppression and developmental harm. They do not break down, and they build up in the body.

A ten-minute hot shower delivers roughly the chloroform dose of drinking two litres of the same tap water. Heat turns the chlorine by-product into vapour, and you take it in through breath and skin.

About 9 million lead service lines still connect American homes to the main. Lead reaches the bathroom through the same pipe as the kitchen tap, and the CDC recognises no safe blood lead level in children.

Infants living in hard-water areas were 87% more likely to have eczema at three months, in a study of 1,300 UK babies. Adults are not spared: more than 31 million Americans live with some form of eczema.

What you are standing in
-
Forever chemicals
The USGS sampled 716 taps across the country and found PFAS in nearly half of them. These compounds persist for decades, accumulate in blood and organs, and are linked by the EPA to cancer, immune and developmental effects. A shower filter cannot take them all out, but the shower is the last point where your skin meets that water, for ten minutes, every day.
-
Scale, biofilm and 324 contaminants
Hard water leaves the crust you can see on a nozzle. The same film builds inside pipes and shower heads, where bacteria settle in. Beyond scale, the Environmental Working Group's Tap Water Database lists 324 contaminants found in US drinking water, from arsenic and chromium-6 to radium. Legal is not the same as safe.
-
Skin and hair take the hit
Chlorine strips the natural oils that keep skin supple and hair elastic, and hot water opens pores so it works faster. Hard-water minerals settle on top as a film. The result is tight, itchy skin, brittle colour-faded hair and eczema flare-ups, and it happens every single day.

Schwisteen 2 · what is in your hand
Filter, plate, switch. All in the handle.
The cartridge sits where the water enters the handle, so every drop is treated before it reaches the plate. The plate narrows the outlets to bring the pressure back. The switch stops the flow while you lather.
What a Schwisteen does about it
Five stages in the handle, in this order. Water goes through all of them before it touches you. Replace the cartridge every four to six months.
KDF-55
Copper-zinc alloy. Reduces free chlorine and heavy metals such as lead and mercury by exchanging electrons with them, and inhibits bacterial growth inside the cartridge.
Calcium sulfite
Keeps working on chlorine at shower temperatures, where carbon alone loses effectiveness.
Activated carbon
Adsorbs odours, organic compounds and what is left of the chlorine taste and smell.
Alkaline ceramic
Balances the pH of the water so it feels less stripping on skin.
Vitamin C
Neutralises residual chlorine and chloramine just before the water reaches the nozzle plate.
Schwisteen 2
Five-stage filtration in the handle
KDF-55 copper-zinc alloy for chlorine and heavy metals. Calcium sulfite for chlorine at hot-water temperatures. Activated carbon for odours and organics. Alkaline ceramic to balance pH. Vitamin C to neutralise chloramine. The cartridge swaps in seconds and lasts four to six months.
Schwisteen 2
Pressure restored, water saved
An air-boost nozzle plate narrows the outlets so the stream lands harder than an unfiltered head on the same pipe, with less water. 24 silicone massage strips work the scalp and shoulders. A one-touch pause switch stops the flow while you lather.
Schwisteen 2
Five spray modes, 60-inch hose
Rain, massage, mist, rain + mist and rain + massage. A 60-inch stainless hose with brass core, a universal G1/2 fitting and a tool-free install. Teflon tape and a spare washer are in the box.
Questions
Does it remove PFAS?
No shower filter reliably removes PFAS, and we will not tell you otherwise. For PFAS you need reverse osmosis or a certified carbon-block filter at the tap. Schwisteen targets what actually hits your skin and lungs in the shower: chlorine, chloramine, disinfection by-products, lead and mercury.
Will it fit my shower?
Yes, if your shower arm has a standard G1/2 thread, which covers nearly every home in North America. It screws on by hand. Teflon tape and a spare washer are in the box.
Does filtering reduce the pressure?
No. The nozzle plate uses an air-boost design that narrows the outlets and raises the pressure of the stream, so the shower feels stronger than an unfiltered head on the same pipe.
How often do I replace the cartridge?
Every four to six months for a household of two. If your water is very hard, or the spray starts to lose its edge, change it sooner. Replacement cartridges are kept in stock.
How long does shipping take?
Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days. Delivery usually takes 10 to 20 days, and you get a tracking number by email the moment it leaves the warehouse. Shipping is free in the United States.
