Schwisteen 2 · Filtered massaging shower head

Your water is treated for the pipes. Not for your skin.

Chlorine keeps municipal water safe on the way to your house, then keeps working on your skin and hair. Schwisteen strips it out in the handle, adds pressure back with an air-boost nozzle plate, and puts it through 24 silicone massage strips.

What comes out of an unfiltered shower

Three things the water utility is allowed to leave in, and what each does at the shower head.

Cl2

Chlorine or chloramine is added to nearly all US municipal water to disinfect it. It stays active all the way to your bathroom, where hot water opens pores and it strips the natural oils from skin and hair.

45%

At least 45% of US tap water is estimated to contain one or more PFAS, the so-called forever chemicals. A shower filter cannot remove them all, but it is the only point where your skin meets that water.

85%

About 85% of American homes have hard water. The dissolved calcium and magnesium leave a film that makes skin feel tight and hair dull, and scale up nozzles until the spray goes uneven.

Inside the cartridge

Water passes the stages in this order. Replace the cartridge every four to six months, sooner with very hard water.

1

KDF-55

Copper-zinc alloy. Reduces free chlorine and heavy metals such as lead and mercury by exchanging electrons with them.

2

Calcium sulfite

Keeps working on chlorine at shower temperatures, where carbon alone loses effectiveness.

3

Activated carbon

Adsorbs odours, organic compounds and what is left of the chlorine taste and smell.

4

Alkaline ceramic

Balances the pH of softened water so it feels less stripping on skin.

5

Vitamin C

Neutralises residual chlorine and chloramine just before the water reaches the nozzle plate.

Built for the last metre

Schwisteen started with a simple observation: the water most people shower in is treated to be safe to drink, not to be kind to skin and hair. Chlorine does its job in the pipes and then keeps doing it on you.

We build shower heads that solve that at the last metre. A multi-stage cartridge sits in the handle, a high-pressure nozzle plate makes up for what filtration takes away, and every part is chosen to be replaced rather than thrown out.

Based in Woodbury, New York.

Questions

Will it fit my shower?

Yes, if your shower arm has a standard G1/2 thread, which covers nearly every home in North America. It screws on by hand. Teflon tape and a spare washer are in the box.

How long does shipping take?

Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days. Delivery usually takes 10 to 20 days, and you get a tracking number by email the moment it leaves the warehouse.

Does filtering reduce the pressure?

No. The nozzle plate uses an air-boost design that narrows the outlets and raises the pressure of the stream, so the shower feels stronger than an unfiltered head on the same pipe.

How often do I replace the cartridge?

Every four to six months for a household of two. If your water is very hard, or the spray starts to lose its edge, change it sooner.

What if it is not for me?

You have 14 days from delivery to return it unused, in the original packaging, for a full refund. Contact us with your order number and we send the return instructions.
